-Damage from the 1920 Wall Street Bombing
Before September 11th, even before the 1993 World Trade Center, Lower Manhattan had at least two prominent terrorist attacks. This was the first one.
On September 16th 1920 a person parked a horse pulled cart filled with dynamite on Wall Street across from what used to be the J.P. Morgan Chase headquarters, right around the corner from the Stock Exchange.
The cart exploded killing 30 people, with 8 more dying later from injuries. At least 148 total were injured.
The explosion was so powerful that the horse’s head landed in front of Trinity Church 100 feet away to the West.
Although there were many theories about who had perpetrated the bombing FBI never solved the case.
The craters and pock marks cause by the explosion are still visible on 23 Wall Street
